Judge Simeon Short (1786 - 1877)

Simeon Short came to Thetford from Hartland in 1815.  Bought the Steiner - Leonard house on Thetford Hill in 1819.  Was a founding Trustee of Thetford Academy in 1819; served on the Board of Trustees for more than 40 years; President in 1850.  Selectman 1820, Town Clerk 1826 - 1831.

Married Martha A. (died 1849), then Sophronia Garey (1812 - 1899).

Portrait painted in 1850 and attributed to Joseph G. Chandler (1813 - 1880?), an itinerant painter who worked mainly in the Connecticut River Valley.
